Myanmar:Yangon: according to the report from The Weekly Eleven News Journal, Myanma Railways (MM) is now planning to start transporting imported cargos by container trains. As railway is one of the cheapest and effective ways of transportation in Myanmar, it can be the fruitful way to maintain the commodity prices by means of transporting merchandise by container trains. This statement had been made known by U Aung Khin Myint, chairman of Myanmar International Freight Forwarders Association (MIFFA), The Weekly Eleven News Journal reported.
Myanma Railways is currently investigating the container train system to determine which goods and merchandise can be transported regularly around the country. Myanma Railways is also planning to invest in cranes and ICDs, the Weekly Eleven news journal reported. Currently, there are about a hundred of 40 foot containers and twelve 20 foot containers in Myanma Railways, told by MIFFA’s chairman U Aung Khin Myint.
If Myanma Railway is going to transport cargos by container trains, it is essential that Myanma Railway is receiving cargos regularly to maintain the regular transportation schedule, plus warehouses must be in ready to store the cargos; as told by U Aung Khin Myint. Currently concerning with building new warehouses for the container trains, Myanma Railways is seeking suggestions and opinions from experienced international freight forwards, The Weekly Eleven news journal reported.
“To transport cargos from overseas by containers, and also cargos from local, Myanmar Railways is planning to transport those merchandises with container trains regularly. We [Myanma Railways] already have containers, which will be enough for transportation by trains. One important task we need to accomplish is to keep a regular schedule; we need regular cargos. Another important thing is that we need to build warehouses in major cities and major train stations. Currently, we need inputs from experienced personnel so that we can receive suggestions and opinions from experienced international freight forwarders.” told by U Aung Khin Myint, chairman of Myanmar International Freight Forwarders Association (MIFFA).
The Weekly Eleven News Journal also reported that if the public has opinions and suggestions concerning with the Myanma railway container train project, anyone can submit theirs to MIFFA office which is located in “Ah Lone” township. Railway transportation is one of the key transportation area the people ofMyanmarare depending on and many are using circle line trains as their daily transportation.
